    <再生能源走廊>是商機

    在詩巫的航運業發展史上,沙石是其中一項最重要的承載物。

    金發石商有限公司董事經理楊榮方受訪時表示:「我們的公司創設于1997年,但從1988年就開始了載送木桐與沙石,至今已經有20多年的沙石業經驗。目前公司擁有2艘載沙船,進行挖沙與洗沙工作,那些沒有洗的原沙充作填土與筑道路,有洗的沙則作建築與做灰柱用途。」

    在詩巫現有一百多艘的載沙船。因為拉讓江是全國第一長河,而且多沙,除供給詩巫用途之外,部份也供給沐膠、古晉、民都魯及美里。

    每一種行業在市場上都會面對各自的挑戰與競爭,沙石業自然也不例外。

    楊榮方表示:「沙的競爭除了同業之外,還要面對泥土的競爭。因為挖沙與運載的成本較高。」

    談到沙石業面對的挑戰時,楊榮方表示:「第一點是柴油起價的問題,它增加了營運成本,同時也造成價格與成本上的許多不確定。第二點是鋼鐵材料的漲價,機械維修成本也相對的提高,這也直接促成挖沙與洗沙的成本增加。第三點是挖沙一定要符合海事局、河川管理局、環境局、土地局及海警當局的種種條例,在申請與處理文件上,需要很多的時間與精力。」

    談到對事物沙石業的發展前景的看法時,楊榮方表示:「因為事物多是低窪地,要發展建購物中心,屋子或店屋都需要填土。在油棕業,道路與建築業方面,沙石更是必備建築材料,所以說其需求是源源不斷的。還有砂州如火如荼進行中的<再生能源走廊>更是本州最大型的計畫。這項政府計畫從民都魯到丹章瑪尼的大型政府計畫,那些低窪地區都必須要沙石的填置。」

    <再生能源走廊>有造船廠,也將建造<清真食品樞紐>。來自國際機場建成之後,不但帶旺該區,沙石航載業的前景也十分可觀。

    身為發展的主流行業,航運業的角色是不可或缺的。如何預備好軟硬體設備,提供好的服務,一旦機會來了,就是展翅上騰的機會了。

  • Yong Ing Huong: Challenges in the Sand and Gravel industry

    Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy is business opportunity.

    Review to the shipping industrial history in Sibu, gravel is one of the most important cargos.

    Managing Director of JIM FIAT GRAVEL SDN. BHD., Mr. Yong stated that: “Our Company was only established in year 1997 but our vessels had involved in carried logs and sand since year 1988. We have more then 20 years experience in the sand and gravel industry. Currently our company have two dump barges are involve in dredging and washing of river sand. For the unwashed sand, it will used in the road construction and the washed sand will use in construction and making of spun pile.”

    There are more than 100 dump barges involve in carrying river sand in Sibu. This is because of Rejang River is the longest river in the country and also contain much of sand. Beside Sibu, the river sand also supply to Mukah, Kuching, Bintulu and Miri.

    Every industry has their rivalry in the market include the sand and gravel industry.

    Yong Ing Huong stated that: “Beside the rivalry inter industrial companies; the industry also needs to meet rivalry from the soil industrial. This is because the river sand needs more operating cost compare to the soil.”

    When talk about the challenges of sand and gravel industrial, Mr. Yong said: “The first challenge is rising of fuel price which increase the operating cost and the product price. The second challenge is an increasing hardware and spare parts indirectly increase the maintenance cost. The third are dredging need meet the requirement of the Marine Department, River Board, Environment Department, Land and Survey Department and Marine Police Department. To obtain the permit the operators have to spend a lot of time to make an application.

    When asked about the future growth of sand and gravel industry, Mr.Yong answered: “Because Sibu more is situated at lowland area, they are needed to fill and higher the land when want to develop and construct the shopping centre, house and shop houses.  In the palm estates, they have a higher demand of sand to build the roads. Besides, Sarawak is now under develops follow a Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy planning and this is also the biggest project in Sarawak.  This project is started from the Bintulu until Tanjung Manis so a lot of sand is needed for the project.

    ‘Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy project’ includes the shipyard building and the ‘Halal food base’. When the international airport is complete, it will sure to flourish the area around and indirectly bringing much opportunity to the sand and gravel industry.

    Shipping takes an important part in the development. All operators should prepare the good equipment and good services to ensure of industry growing.
